TQ Weekend Wrap – Free Horse Racing Tips and Trends: 8th Dec 2018
  • FLU OUT BREAK ROCKS THE RACING WORLD………
  • SATURDAY LIVE RACING: Naas Flying The Flag……..
  • TQ UPDATE: Early Week Winners Keep Us Happy……

Hi,

Well, what a week it’s been!

We managed to see off the worse of the bad weather then the racing world gets hit with a bout of equine flu – You couldn’t make it up!

Unless you’ve been on the planet ‘Zog’, you’ll now know the BHA have decided there will be NO BRITISH RACING until at least Wednesday (13th Feb). Three horses from the Donald McCain yard were infected with this new outbreak of equine flu, and with that stable having runners at various tracks this week, then this would naturally put hundreds of other horses that ran at those fixtures at risk.

Therefore, the BHA have locked-down 100+ yards and will be carrying out extensive tests on all these horse over the next few days. Fingers crossed they don’t find any other cases and that the quick thinking by both the Donald McCain yard to alert the authorities and by the BHA to not be afraid to cancel racing has prevented this getting any worse.

I think we’ll all agree that losing a few days racing now is far better than potentially putting the Cheltenham Festival, which starts in just over a month, at risk.

Hopefully, there are enough swab tests in circulation to get the job done quickly and effectively – so, fingers crossed the action returns on Wednesday – we’ll see.

It’s at times like this that we realise just how big the sport of horse racing is and just how many lives and businesses it impacts. We know the TQ yards are all taking the necessary precautions and we all just need to let everyone get on with their individual jobs to get this sorted.

The better news is that is not life threatening to the horses and we shouldn’t forget about the welfare of our four-legged friends– by all accounts they feel like we do when we get the flu – maybe Lemsip need to bring out a carrot and polo flavoured flu drink!!

In the meantime, this has resulted in two decent Saturday cards at Newbury and Warwick being lost. We’ll have to see if the top races here are moved to another meeting later in the month but with time running out between now and Cheltenham the trainers of some of the big horses will be keen to get another run into them somewhere.

It really is a ‘watch this space’ story that is sure to develop more over the weekend and during the early part of next week.

Fingers crossed!

All is not totally lost though as Ireland are still allowed to race and they’ve a fair card at Naas this Saturday. The ITV guys moved quickly too so will now be covering FIVE races LIVE from the Irish venue, so we’ve had a quick scan at the main races and highlighted a few key trends for anyone wanting to get involved.

Have a Great Weekend!!

This Week At Trainers-Quotes: Some Nice Returns before the Flu Break hit………….

Here’s just a sample of recent winners…………………

“Crystal Lad – Very disappointing run last time when pulled up at Kempton on Boxing Day. Is better than that and hopefully he can put it right today as he has been working well. Each-way. “

2nd 7/1 Gary Moore

“Honorable – Promising run last time when fifth at Ascot.Hopefully can improve on that today, which he will need to do, but is a horse we like who surely should have a reasonable chance and seems to be going the right way. The King, Henderson and Kelly horses set the standard but feel we can go better than odds suggest. “

2nd 22/1 Gary Moore

“Suzi’s Connoisseur having his first run at Southwell so it will be a learning curve for us, if he handles it we think he should have a good chance of a place – however, Ornate looks good.”

3rd 16/1 Jane Chapple-Hyam

“Global Spectrum – What can I say, his my best horse. This £130,000 entire by Dutch Art bolted up over course and distance and will take all the beating.”

1st 4/6 (from 11/4) Gay Kelleway

“Precision Prince – Should go close. A fine second here a few weeks ago and only a pound higher. Only slight niggle is the trip as up another furlong here. We think he’ll get it but you never really know until they run in a race over it. If he does then feel he’ll win.”

1st 9/4 Mark Loughnane

“Croeso Cymraeg – Seems to be getting the hang of things now so if he settles and Raul de Silva is able to ride a race on him then he should be thereabouts.”

1st 4/1 James Evans

“Warriors Valley – Been running really well of late – the cheekpieces will help him and is a past CD winner here. Draw 2 is fine and we are 3lbs lower than when we raced here at Southwell last (Jan). Confident of a good run.”

1st 5/2 Dave Griffiths

“Limerick Lord – Has shown his best form at Southwell but he seems to have got a bit sick of the kick-back there lately. Therefore, we think a change of scenery here at Wolves will be best for him and he has run a couple of times here in the past – finishing 3rd and 4th with top-weight in a Class 6. We think he has a great e/w chance here at a good price.”

1st 16/1 Julia Feilden

“Clearance – Quite a promising run over hurdles last time at Newbury. Hopefully that gave him a bit of an interest which should see him run well today back on the flat. Dropped a pound since last run on the level and the step up to 1m6f will be fine. Each-way. “

1st 10/3 Gary Moore
