Smokey Maloe always runs his race and is a CD winner. He is in great form but his winning usually happens in a lower grade than today's.  Hopefully, he has each-way chances.

Stormingin continues to defy his years and returns to the same CD where he gave his young rider a first win. This will be only her 3rd ride so if she wins that would represent a healthy enough strike rate. He's only 3lb higher and has the plum draw so why not?

Percy's Lad makes his seasonal return. He'll come forward for the run which will set him up perfectly for the May meeting at Chester, a track he loves.

Ciara Pearl won nicely over 10f at Lingfield last Monday and comes here in a similar race under a penalty. The more galloping track will suit her better than Lingfield but that's countered by the drop back to a mile.

Gogo Yubari has really got her act together with three wins this year. She needed every yard at Lingfield last time but again at 5f, and only 2lb higher, we're hoping to strike while the iron's hot.

Sweet Carolina is a nice filly with tons of speed. I trained the dam and she was very quick too. Mine always improve for their debut but even so, I would like to see her run a good race.

Morawig is a horse I have always loved. He's exceptionally good-looking but is not straightforward and therefore has been a slow burner. Gelded after his last run, I expect him to improve as the year goes on. This is a lovely starting point.

If Spirit D'Aunou is at his best he should give a good account in a wide-open race. We think he can outrun his odds.

Boys Of Wexford isn't the easiest to win with, but he's been getting nearer in recent runs and this could be his day. The better ground will help him.

Dark Mystery is no superstar on the all-0weather but he is fit and well at home. If lacking a gear on the track, this race is within his capabilities and he should runa  decent race today.

La Marquise looked above average when winning on debut in soft ground at Stratford in November but disappointed in a Listed event at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. Back against her own sex next time she defied a penalty at Chepstow. This is a big step up in class but she is a smart mare…

Zainabb went well last year but was over the top when she had her final run at Newmarket. Seven furlongs on the all-weather at Southwell should suit her perfectly and I would not be surprised to see a big run from her tonight.

Per Contra won his first two races last year and we think he'll do well as a 3yo. He's a big horse and is unlikely to be suited to Wolverhampton, but he's rated 88 and cannot get into 0-85 races so we're limited for choice. Also, I would have preferred to start him at 10f…

Champagne Piaff hasn't been seen on the track for 18 months. He won off today's mark on his penultimate run and while that was on much faster ground than today's he also had run well on soft. The trip is fine so we go there with a degree of optimism.

Profitman is getting the hang of things and he has come out of his recent Wolverhampton success in good order. Hopefully, he can cope with the 4lb higher mark to complete the quick double.

Golden Maverick was a prolific winner on the flat last year for previous connections, rated 83. and we always thought he would make a decent hurdler. After a couple of placed efforts, he comfortably won a weak race last time and looks progressive. He starts handicapping on a fair mark and should have every chance…

Desfondado ran well on his return but didn't back that up next time. He seems in great shape and it would be no surprise to see him get back on track here. A big run is expected.

Mesaafi ran with promise in both runs as a 2yo, beaten a similar distance in each. We gelded him in the autumn and from a decent draw this evening, we're hoping he can build on those performances with a run in the money.
