Doc McCoy is by Getaway and is bred on the same cross (out of an Oscar mare) as top-class Sporting John. He was an impressive 20-length winner of his debut Irish point-to-point in much the fastest time of four maidens on the day. Third on his hurdle debut on first start for the yard in the autumn, he filled the same position, staying on well in a better race at Southwell recently. He has the best racecourse form although it is never easy to gauge the ability of the newcomers. No doubt the market will offer the best indication of that.
